Brent Sopel began his professional career in 1993 as a member of the Saskatoon Blades Club of the Western Hockey League . 2 years later, in the NHL draft, he was selected in the 6th round under the total number 144 by the Vancouver Canucks Club [1] . On April 3, 1996, Brent signed a contract with Canucks, after which he began performing in the AHL for the Syracuse Crunch Club. In 1999, Sopel made his debut in the NHL , and on April 10 of that year, he scored his first puck in the league against Tommy Salo , who played for the Edmonton Oilers .

On August 16, 2005, because of the "wage ceiling", Vancouver was forced to exchange Brent for the New York Islanders , with whom he concluded a two-year agreement for $ 4.8 million. By that time, Sopel spent 333 matches in the Canadian club he scored 136 (34 + 102) points. However, at the end of the season, Brent became part of the Denis Grebeshkov exchange from Los Angeles Kings . As part of the "kings" Sopel spent 55 matches, after which he returned to Vancouver.

Before the start of the 2007/08 season, Brent was invited to the Detroit training camp, but already on September 28, without waiting for a decent offer from the Red Wings, he signed a one-year $ 1.5 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks club [2] . On January 10, 2008, Sopel extended his agreement with the club for another 3 years, increasing the contract amount to $ 7 million [3] . For 3 seasons in the "black hawks" Brent spent on the site 176 matches in which he scored 32 (4 +28) points, and in 2010 he , along with the club, won the Stanley Cup . After that success, Sopel decided to bring the cup to the Chicago gay parade , where he was invited by the gay hockey association of the city [4] .

On June 23, 2010, Brent became a player of the club “ Atlanta Thrashers ” [5] , in which he played 59 matches, after which he was exchanged in the “ Montreal Canadiens ” [6] . July 30, 2011 Sopel entered into a two-year agreement with Metallurg Novokuznetsk [7] . October 16 in the match against Chekhov " Vityaz " Brent scored his first goal in the KHL [8] .
