Gameplay

Despite the fact that the game is part of the OutRun series, the gameplay is very similar to the Chase HQ game, where the main goal is to ram the criminals, for which the player receives points (as well as during the execution of the task) and can upgrade the car [1] . All you need to go through 8 missions taking place in real American cities: San Francisco , Los Angeles , Las Vegas , Grand Canyon , Chicago , Miami , Washington and New York . In the last mission, the player will have to catch up and ram the car of the criminal twice.

Before the chase begins, the player can choose one of four musical compositions. On the road, the player should avoid colliding with traffic vehicles and fixed obstacles, however, some objects, such as ski jumps, allow the player to avoid obstacles. Trucks can also appear on the roads, at the entrance to which the player can buy spare parts that improve the characteristics of the car: a body, tires, engine, chassis, as well as a nitro accelerator, after installing which, an indicator will appear in the upper left corner that shows how much it is left in stock. After the player catches up with the criminal’s car, an indicator will appear in the upper left corner showing the amount of car’s life, and the music will also change. To stop the criminal, it is necessary to ram his car so that the indicator of life is empty. After the capture of the criminal, the player receives money.

A reviewer from Jeuxvideo.com gave Battle Out Run a score of 75 out of 100 and noted nice graphics, gameplay and good music, but he attributed the sound effects to the shortcomings [4] . Site Browser 1UP! praised Battle Out Run at 70%, naming gameplay and music out of merit, but criticized visual style and uniformity. Comparing the game with Chase HQ for the Master System, the observer noted the superiority of the first in quality [5] .

Some critics have rated Battle Out Run less positive. The browser from Player One gave a score of 65 out of 100, noting, though a good, but monotonous gameplay [3] .
