In 1945, the volost included the Rudulsky and Valgundsky village councils. After the cancellation of the volost division in 1949, Valgunde was part of the Jelgava (1949–1962, 1967–1990) and Dobele (1962–1967) districts, and rural lands were transferred to the Kalnetsiemsky Village Council.
In 1954, the Ozolnieki and part of Mazsvetes were attached to Valgunda, in 1979 Kalnciems. In 1990, the Valgund Village Council was reorganized into the Valgund Region. In 2009 , at the end of the Latvian administrative-territorial reform, the Valgunda Region, as a parish, became part of the created Jelgava Region.
