La Libertad ( Spanish: La Libertad ) is a municipality in Mexico , Chiapas , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . The population according to the 2010 census was 4,974 people.

General information
The name La Libertad (from the Spanish - “liberated, independent”) was given as a sign of liberation from the Spanish crown.
The area of the municipality is 1965 km², which is 2.6% of the state. In the south and west it borders with another municipality of Chiapas - Palenque , and in the north and east with the state of Tabasco [3] .
Institution and composition
The municipality was formed in 1915 [4] , it consists of 64 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic activity
The working population is occupied by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture and livestock - 67.3%, manufacturing and manufacturing - 4.7%, services and tourism - 25.2%. Main activities [4] :
Agriculture
The main crops grown are: corn , watermelons , beans , sorghum , cassava and fruits .
Livestock
Cattle , horses , pigs and poultry are bred in the municipality.
Fishing
The main commercial fish: robala , moharra , carp , armored pike , bobo and others.
Forestry
The municipality produces timber from Spanish cedar and mahogany.
Infrastructure
According to statistics from 2000, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- length of roads: 72.1 km;
- electrification: 75.4%;
- water supply: 52.5%;
- water disposal: 79.1%.
Tourism
The main attractions that attract tourists are the lagoons of Sakila and Chinkil, the Chakash and Chuyip rivers, as well as the local flora and fauna [4] .
