Hydrography
Yavon flows from Lake Velho , located on the Valdai Upland . The height of the source is 212 m above sea level [3] . The source of Yavoni was blocked in 1944 by a dam near the runoff from Lake Velho. As a result, the headwaters of the river are, in fact, an independent river, the source of which is located in Lake Bolshoye Yaichko of the Demyansky District of the Novgorod Region, and the mouth is Lake Velho. According to the Russian State Water Register, Lake Velho belongs to the Shlina River Basin, and not to Pola [4] .
From the first meters the river is a stormy stream, running through the stones at high speed and forming numerous rapids . The winding channel, except for the rapids, is blocked by blockages. Shores overgrown with forest and shrubs. The river retains this character throughout the first half of its course up to the mouth of Kunyanka . The total fall of the river in this section is 148 meters, which is very important for central Russia.
Behind the confluence of the Kunyanka, the river gradually reduces the speed of the stream, the rapids turn into insignificant rifts, before the Demyansk river a dilapidated dam. Beyond Demyansk, the river calms even more, rifts almost disappear. Yavon flows into Polu just below Ladomirka and above Polomet .

Use of the River
The largest settlement on the river is the urban-type village of Demyansk : the district center of the Demyansky district of the Novgorod region.
Yavon is very popular among lovers of sports rafting on rivers, mainly in floods .
Historical Information
In ancient times, the river served as one of the trade routes from Veliky Novgorod to the Volga [5] , which ran along the Field, Yavoni, dragging from Lake Velho to Seliger and further along Selizharovka , but was however less popular than the Mstinsky trade route and is accessible only to small ships due to the difficulty of navigating the fast and rapids of Yavoni, especially upstream. On the right bank of the Yavon River, near the village of Peski and 8 km east of Demyansk , opposite the mouth of Kunyanka, there is the ancient city of Peski-I ( Knyazhna Gora ), which P. A. Rappoport considered the original site of the annalistic city of Demon [6] .
