The 3rd South Asian Federative Games took place in Calcutta ( India ) on November 20, 1987. This was the first time that India hosted the South Asian Games , and the largest sporting event not only in the history of Calcutta, but also in the history of all of West Bengal . Athletes from 7 countries took part in competitions in 10 sports.
