Geographical position

The district was located in the west of the Penza province , bordered by the Tambov province . The county area in 1897 was 2,295.0 [1] vers Β² (2,612 kmΒ²) - the smallest county in the province.

History

The district was formed in September 1780 as part of the Penza governorship as a result of the reform of Catherine the Great . Since 1796 - in the Penza province .

By a decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of March 16, 1925, the Narovchatka district was abolished, its territory divided between Nizhnelomovsky and Bednodemyanovsky counties [2] .

Population

According to the census of 1897, 118,212 [1] people lived in the county. Including Russians - 86.3%, Mordvinians - 13.6%. 4,710 people lived in the town of Narovchat .
