History

On December 5, 1983, Pope John Paul II issued the bull Ut per aptam , which established the Diocese of Diphu, separating it from the Shillong-Gauhati Archdiocese (today the Shillong Archdiocese and Guwahati Archdiocese) and the Aizawl Diocese.

Ordinaries of the diocese

  • Bishop Matai Kochuparampil (December 5, 1983 - March 4, 1992);
  • Bishop John Thomas Cattukudiyil (1.06.1994 - December 7, 2005) - appointed Bishop of Itanagar ;
  • Bishop John of Moolachira (02/14/2007 - 04/09/2011).
