- This article is about a song. There is an article about a mini-album of the same name.
Despite the fact that neither in the UK nor in the USA the song was released as a single, it was rather well rotated on the radio [2] , which is why EMI subsequently released the eponymous mini-album with this composition as the first [3 ] . The song was released as a single in Canada, where it became the number one hit. The Canadian single was imported to the United States in a quantity sufficient to ensure that in April 1964 the song took 45th position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart [4] [5] .

Song
According to journalist Bill Harry, McCartney came up with the lyrics while shaving [6] , although according to Barry Miles the lyrics were written while traveling on the bus [1] . Miles also cites the following words of McCartney: “This was the first song for which I first wrote the words” [1] . The text of the song is like a letter, following in this model, already used by the group in the song " PS I Love You " [3] . After arriving at the concert, McCartney composed the music for his text using the piano behind the scenes [1] .
John Lennon subsequently expressed his admiration for this song, giving an interview to Playboy magazine in 1980 [7] : ““ All My Loving ”is Paul's song, I will say with regret. [...] Because it's a hell of a good job. And I play a pretty mediocre guitar part in the background. ”
Record Song
The group recorded the song on July 30, 1963 at Abby Road Studios. 11 basic doubles and three additional doubles were made, intended for additional information. As a result, the 14th double was used as the main one, which was reduced to the double number eleven [8] . The mono version was mixed on August 21 [8] , and the stereo version on October 29 [9] .
In the recording participated: [3]
- Paul McCartney - double-recorded and mixed vocals, bass, echo
- John Lennon - Echo Guitar, Rhythm Guitar
- George Harrison - Earmuffs, Solo Guitar
- Ringo Starr - drums
Release and fate of the song
“All My Loving” was released in the UK on November 22, 1963 on the album With the Beatles [10] ; in addition, the song became the title composition of the eponymous mini-album released on February 7, 1964 [10] . The first release of the song in the USA was on the Meet The Beatles! , released January 20, 1964 [10] , and later the song was included in the American mini-album Four by The Beatles . In Canada, the song came out in the form of a single (with the song “ This Boy ” on side “B” ), and also entered the Beatlemania album ! With The Beatles .
The song quickly entered the group’s “live” repertoire and was its indispensable component throughout 1963 and most of 1964 [2] . It was with this song that the group's debut performance on the Ed Sullivan show was opened on February 9, 1964 [11] ; the recording of this performance was subsequently included in Anthology 1 [12] . The group also performed this song several times for the BBC radio; a version recorded on February 28, 1964, was included in the compilation album Live at the BBC [2] .
The song was used twice in the films of the group - in the films “ Evening of a hard day ” and “ Magic mysterious journey ”.
According to Alan Weiss, a television producer who was a direct witness to what was happening, the song “All My Loving” sounded in the audio system of the resuscitation room of the Roosevelt Hospital at the time that Lennon’s death was ascertained (December 8, 1980) [13] .
Ratings by critics
All My Loving has been praised by many critics. Ian MacDonald noted that “the simplicity of the British rock of the early sixties was remarkably crystallized in the expressive simplicity of this issue”, and also expressed the opinion that it was thanks to this song that McCartney began to be considered equal to Lennon [3] . Richie Antberberger ( Allmusic reviewer) noted that the song “was probably the best Beatles song ever released until 1964,” and that if the song was released as a single in the United States, it would probably be outstanding hit [14] .
