History

The house was built in 1900-1902 on Petrovsky Island with the money of the husband of the actress, philanthropist A. E. Molchanov (architect M. F. Geisler ), on the land granted by the tsar. Savina’s idea was to create “a shelter for elderly actors, not a poorhouse, but a rest house for the rest of her life for stage artists. In this refuge they must find peace, the greatest possible comfort and gentle care for their work. " This land was protected by royal decree prohibiting its alienation (sale) from the house. The Soviet government accepted the inheritance by ratifying this decree in 1923 .

In 1948 - 1956, the house was expanded and reconstructed. By the Decree of the Government of July 10, 2001 (No. 527), the entire territory of the ICE was granted the status of a historical and cultural monument of federal significance. At the moment ( 2006 ), the House and the surrounding area are in free use by the Union of Theater Workers of Russia [1] .

The house is home to actors , directors and artists , participants in the Second World War , war veterans, cavaliers of military orders, blockades , prisoners of Nazi and Stalin concentration camps , of which four are national and eleven honored artists of Russia .

The house and the adjacent historical park occupy five and a half hectares. Named trees planted in honor of actors, artists, and composers grow in the park, which was founded even under Peter the Great . Many trees are protected by the state.

On May 21, 1957, Alexander Vertinsky gave his last concert here. He died several hours later at the Astoria Hotel.

Repair situation of the Veterans' House scene

According to expert estimates, a comprehensive overhaul, reconstruction and restoration of ICE required funds that the Union of Theater Workers of Russia did not have .

During a discussion of plans to reconstruct the House of Veterans of the Stage in 2006, a scandal erupted over the intentions of the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers A. Kalyagin to sell part of the Sistema-Hals company and to build a residential building on the territory of the monument of federal significance [1] [2] [3] . The STD and Sistema-Hals agreement were opposed by stage veterans and a number of theatrical figures. The situation reached President V.V. Putin , who ordered to investigate the conflict and promised to allocate funds for the repair of the Veterans House from the budget [4] . As a result of the president’s intervention, Sistema-Hals abandoned plans to build a residential building, donating to the Union of Theater Workers, which is in charge of the Veteran’s House, for repairs of $ 5 million (132 million rubles) [2] [5] . The Governor of St. Petersburg V. Matvienko suggested transferring the House to the city balance, however A. Kalyagin spoke out against this, since, in his opinion, in this case the House of Veterans of the Scene would lose its creative face and become just a city institution. [2] Kalyagin considered one of the numerous press publications offensive to his honor and dignity, having estimated the damage at half a million rubles. However, the court reduced these requirements by recovering 1 ruble from the Petersburg Theater Journal , and 1 thousand rubles from the journalist of the journal M. Dmitrievskaya [6] .

Despite the allocation of funds for the repair of the House back in 2006, work as of spring 2010 was not started. According to the director of the House of Veterans of the Stage, Alexander Belokobylsky , the Union of Theater Workers has already spent half of these funds, but repeated appeals to the prosecutor’s office and the Department for Economic Crimes have failed. [5] In December 2010, the building of the Stage Veterans House was blacklisted by the Ministry of Emergencies for Fire Safety [7] .

In the period from 2007 to 2009, work was carried out to create project documentation and coordinate it with the State Construction Supervision and Expertise Service of St. Petersburg and other authorized organizations. The press also published information that by 2010 the Union of Theater Workers had already spent half of these funds, but repeated inspections by the Prosecutor's Office of St. Petersburg did not reveal any violations .

Further fate

In winter 2012, a large-scale reconstruction began at the scene Veterans House. On May 2, 2013, Vladimir Putin visited the Veterans House. Alexander Kalyagin told the President about the progress and their results: not only buildings were repaired, but chandeliers and other interior elements were recreated according to old drawings, old paintings made by icon painters from V. Vasnetsov school were cleaned. The house church, which was destroyed in 1930, was restored. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill consecrated the church on May 28, 2013, on the day of the grand opening of the restored House of Veterans of the stage to them. M.G. Savina. The veterans moved from the Komarovo Art House, in which they lived during the reconstruction period, in October 2013. On October 25, 2013, Chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia A. Kalyagin and Manager of the President of the Russian Federation V. Kozhin visited the St. Petersburg House of Veterans of the Scene named after M. G. Savina and participated in the housewarming holiday.
