Biography

The daughter of a provincial official and a well-known literary critic, on her maternal side went back to the first settlers of French Canada , the counts of Kamuraska, an episode from the history of which served as the basis for her eponymous historical-science-fiction novel ( 1970 ). It began to be published in 1937 . Books of poems and "Gothic" prose by Anna Eber, including later become the most famous, confused and alarmed Canadian publishers, many of them were published at the expense of the author. From 1950 she worked on Canadian Radio , in 1954 - 1960 . acted as a screenwriter. Since the mid 1950s published and lived from time to time in Paris , in 1965 after the death of her mother she moved there for several decades. Returned to Montreal in 1998 .

  • Three times she was awarded the main literary award of Canada - the prize of the Governor General (twice - for fiction, once - for poetry).
