History
Construction and commissioning
In 1872, the Russian Ministry of Railways , pursuing a favorable policy, began to look for private investors who were ready to invest in the construction of new railways in the Ostsee region . The next year, the Riga Mayor, Alexander Faltin, was granted a concession for the creation of the Riga-Tukkum Railway Society . Work was started in 1875 , traffic along a single-track 58-kilometer section was opened in stages.
The pace of construction was slowed down by the need to build a railway bridge over the Lielupe River and concerns about strengthening the shore, which suffered from spring floods. Subsequently, the line went into public use and in 1895 was included in the Riga-Orel railway. In 1911, a second track was laid to the Sloka station, dismantled during the First World War .
Post-war and modern device
The railway that suffered during the war was partially restored by 1922 , but the main work continued until the mid-1930s.
During the years of Soviet power, the Jurmala area became one of the most popular. Passenger traffic increased every year, which was associated with the active growth of Jurmala , which became the "All-Union Health Resort", the emergence of new boarding houses, rest houses and summer pioneer camps.
In 1950, the Riga - Dubulti section was electrified , in 1951 it was extended to Kemeri station, and in 1966 to Tukums [1] .
