Biography
Born in Hollywood, PA, her parents were Walter and Amelia Clark. She worked as an insurance manager, then married and became a housewife. At the age of 117, she was recognized as the oldest person in the world. When her family told her about this, Sarah smiled back and said, “so what?” She died 33 hours before the celebration of 2000 in a nursing home, where she lived for 9 years.
Knauss survived seven wars involving the United States and the administration of 23 presidents.
Her only daughter Catherine lived 101 years.
