Biography
He lived and worked in Leningrad. Brother of the artist N.K. Toad.
In 1899 - 1907 he studied at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts with P.O. Kovalevsky , F. Roubaud . He received the title of artist for the painting “On Fire” (10.31.1907) [1] .
In 1908 - 1930 - member of the watercolor section of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts .
One of the organizers and in the 1910s - 1920s - a member of the "Community of Artists" . Exhibitor of the Society of Individualist Artists (1921-1928).
In 1909 he took part in a hydrographic expedition to Murman and Kolguev Island , as a result he created the picturesque series “Far North” (1909).
In 1914 he completed illustrations for the publication of fables by I. A. Krylov .
After the October Revolution, he painted on the themes of the army and navy, revolutionary history, Soviet life and industrial construction: “The landing of the Kronstadt sailors in the October days of 1917”, “The flood in Leningrad on September 23, 1924” (both - 1925), “Snowstorm” ( 1930), “Departure of the Red Artillery in Position” (1933), “Border Guards” (1934), “Logging”, “Lomovik”, “Skiers” (all - 1935), “Arrival of S. M. Kirov in Pyatigorsk” ( 1937), "K. E. Voroshilov and S. M. Memory
In 1967, an exhibition of Russian artists who wrote the Crimea, hosted by E. V. Nagaevskaya, was held in Samarkand . Among the 10 artists represented at the exhibition were Alphonse and Nina Toad.
The artist’s works are stored in museums of St. Petersburg, Moscow, the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia , the Central Museum of the Armed Forces , and in private collections.
