Title History
On August 20, 1739 the name Malaya Sarskaya Street was assigned; the name is due to the fact that the street was the beginning of the road to Tsarskoye Selo . Since 1772, it was called Horse Lane - on horse riding grounds on Sennaya Square , where horses were traded.
In 1778, part of the street on the site from the Moika River to the Griboedov Canal was renamed Demidov Lane , by the name of the owner of houses No. 1 and 5 A. G. Demidov . On April 16, 1887, both lanes were united under the general name Demidov Lane [1] .
The lane got its modern name on December 15, 1952 , in honor of A. I. Grivtsov , a military driver , participant in the defense of Leningrad, Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .
