The Economic Intelligence Council is the highest government body in India responsible for economic intelligence and combating economic crime, established in 1990. It is a division of the Ministry of Finance of India and has 18 regional divisions (intelligence agencies). The Council's functions include coordinating actions and exchanging information among government departments responsible for controlling economic crimes, such as smuggling , money laundering , tax evasion and fraud . The Council also advises the Minister of Finance and the Government on the development of draft laws governing the financial sector and the fight against economic crime [1] .
Composition
The Council is chaired by the Minister of Finance of India (currently Nirmala Sifaraman ), it also includes the Chairman of the Reserve Bank of India , the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of India, the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation , the Director of the Bureau of Drug Control and the Director of Financial Intelligence , Director The Central Agency of Excise and Customs, and representatives of the Ministry of Finance are secretaries of finance, taxes, public companies and banks. In addition, the board includes the Director General of the power units of the Ministry of Finance . The invited members of the Council are the directors of the Intelligence Bureau and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. The Secretary of the Council is the Deputy Director General of the Central Bureau of Economic Intelligence [1] .
