Generic Access Profile (GAP) - ETSI standard EN 300 444, describing a set of mandatory requirements, allowing any base station that complies with the DECT standard to interact with any other DECT-supporting parts (handset) to provide basic telephony services when connected to the network at a frequency of 3, 1 kHz (in accordance with EN 300 176-2).
The goal of GAP is to provide interaction at the boundary of the air environment (for example, a radio connection ) and at the level of the procedure for establishing, maintaining and disconnecting telephone calls (call control). GAP also provides procedures for registering moving parts (tubes) on the fixed part (base).
So, if you purchase a GAP-compatible handset from one manufacturer, then it should work with another manufacturer's GAP-compatible base with at least the basic set of functions necessary for making calls. In this case, the handsets will not necessarily be able to access advanced functions of the base station, such as synchronizing the phone book or remote control of an answering machine built into the base. Most consumer-grade DECT phones and base stations support the GAP Profile, even those that do not claim this feature, and therefore can be used together. However, some manufacturers block their systems in such a way that they will not interact or provide a base for registering new handsets.
GAP does not describe exactly how the basic part is connected to the external telephone network.
