White-tailed marsupial mouse [1] , or granular-footed marsupial mouse [2] ( lat. Sminthopsis granulipes ) is a species from the genus narrow-footed marsupial mice of the family predatory marsupials . Endemic to Australia .

Distribution

It lives in the southwestern part of Western Australia . The natural habitat is sandy plains covered with shrubs (sometimes undersized eucalyptus trees ) [3] .

Appearance

The length of the body with the head ranges from 69 to 88 mm, the tail from 56 to 66 mm. The weight of an adult is from 18 to 37 g [4] . The hairline is short, thick and soft. On the back at the base is bluish-gray in color, on the tip is dark brown. The general color of the back is from tan to gray. The belly is painted light gray or white. The muzzle is elongated, pointed. The ears are large, triangular. The tail is of medium length, with a narrow dark brown stripe in the upper part. Paws are white. The pads are grainy. Like a number of other representatives of the genus, the white-tailed marsupial mouse has fat deposits in the tail [5] .

Lifestyle

White-tailed marsupials lead a terrestrial, solitary lifestyle. Activity falls at night. They feed mainly on insects , as well as small invertebrates [4] .

Reproduction

The bag is well developed. In general, the ecology of the species has been little studied. The breeding season probably occurs in May – July [4] .
