Bristol [1] ( eng. Bristol County ) is a county located in the state of Rhode Island , USA . Established in 1747. By 2010, the population of Bristol County was 49,875 people.

History
Bristol County was formed during the separation of part of the territory from Bristol County, Massachusetts, in favor of Rhode Island , which was the cause of lengthy territorial disputes [2] .
Historically, the district was part of the Plymouth colony , and got its name in honor of the "count city" - the capital of the district, Bristol . The modern district of Bristol, which includes Bristol , Barrington and Warren was formed in 1746 [3] .
Geography
Bristol is the smallest district of Rhode Island. According to the US Census Bureau, the county has an area of ββ116.5 square kilometers , of which 64.7 square meters. km - land area and 51.8 square meters. km - area of ββwater areas (water areas occupy 44.8% of the area of ββthe district). The county is the third-largest smallest county in the United States (if considered only land) after the Calavao, Hawaii and New York, New York counties (the independent cities of Virginia were not counted).

According to the 2000 census, 50,648 people (13,361 families) live in the district. The population density is 792 people per square meter. km The state has 19,881 housing units (311 units per sq. Km). Racial and ethnic composition : 96.81% of whites, 0.69% of blacks and African Americans, 0.16% of Indians, 1% of Asians, 0.03% of people from the Pacific Islands, 0.3% of other nations and 1.01 % mixed population. Hispanics make up 1.13%; 24.7% come from Portugal, 18.6% from Italy , 12.4% from Ireland , 5.9% from France , 10.5% from the British. English is the first for 85.4% of the population, for 1.3% - Spanish, for 10.4% - Portuguese. The county is one of two counties in the United States with a significant Portuguese population (the second is Bristol, Massachusetts ).
