Fonseca, Georges Carlos

Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca ( port. Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca , born October 29, 1950 [1] ) is a lawyer, professor at the University, and a politician in Cape Verde . He won the presidential election in Cape Verde in 2011, receiving 37.4% of the vote in the first round and 54.2% in the second. The election was supported by the opposition " Movement for Democracy " [2] . In 2016, re-elected president for a second term.

Biography

Jorge Fonseca graduated in Lisbon , graduating with a master's degree from the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon [3] .

- Assistant trainee, assistant, assistant to the Higher Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon (1982-1990);
- Researcher at the Max-Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (Max-Planck Institut für ausländishes und internationales Strafrecht) (1986);
- Professor of Law and Criminal Procedure at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Lisbon (1987);
- Professor and director of the resident course in law and public administration at the University of East Asia - Macau, 1988-1990;
- Director General for Immigration and Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cape Verde (1975-1977);
- Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cape Verde (1977-1979);
- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cape Verde (1991-1993);
- Lawyer and legal adviser in Cape Verde (since 1993);
- Associate Professor and Chairman of ISCJS, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, 2006 to September 9, 2011;
- Chairman of the Law and Justice Council of the Foundation from its inception until September 9, 2011;
- Founder and director of the journal Law and Citizenship, published since July 1997;
- Permanent author of the Portuguese Criminal Law Journal;
- Member of the editorial board of the journal of Economics and Law at the University of Lisbon;
- President of the Republic of Cape Verde, elected on August 21, 2011 and sworn in on September 9, 2011.
- A poet with two published books and dozens of articles in magazines and collections, Cape Verde and abroad.
- Author of dozens of books and more than fifty published works in the field of law in Cape Verde and abroad
