Idol from Drissa

The idol of Drissa is a wooden statue found in Belarus , in the Drissa river, in August 2011.

Content

History

The idol was raised on August 12 by scuba divers of the Minsk club “Captain Morgan”, before that there was an exploratory dive. After the presentation of the media, the idol was packed in a film to prevent drying out, and taken to the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences in Minsk for preservation and establishment of age [1] [2] . Most pagan and native faith organizations immediately recognized the idol as a fake without waiting for examination .

Localization

Found on the territory of the Krasnopolsky village executive committee of the Rossonsky district , Vitebsk region , near the villages of Krasnopolie and Amosenki [3] .

Idol Description

Height 1.20 m, body 0.6 and 0.7 m. Weight 150-200 kg. The tree is oak. Preliminary dates from the VI - XII centuries . Skeptics believe that an idol may be a product of the folk art of the Soviet period. Presumably, this is a statue of Veles or Perun .

Expertise

According to the head of the center for the history of pre-industrial society from the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the age of an idol is no more than 30 years (~ 1988). [4] .
