History

On December 16, 1947, by a government decision, the Special Design Bureau for Long-Range Missiles ( SKB-385 , later the Engineering Design Bureau , was renamed the State Rocket Center (GRC) in 1993 at the base of plant No. 66 in Zlatoust ). In 1955 V. P. Makeev was appointed chief designer of design bureaus at the suggestion of S. P. Korolev . On his proposal, construction of a new site on the northern outskirts of Miass of the Chelyabinsk region and relocation of design bureaus begins. Since 1955 it has been located in Miass .

Until 1956, the Design Bureau was engaged in the development of serial production of missiles developed by OKB-1 , headed by S.P. Korolev . In the mid-1950s, the Design Bureau under the leadership of V.P. Makeev began independent development of ballistic missiles for submarines. Since the beginning of the 1960s, three generations of missile systems, which form the basis of Russia's strategic nuclear forces, were created and put into service with the Navy.

As part of the conversion activities, the GRC takes part in the programs of the Russian Space Agency and in the creation of systems and equipment for the national economy. At different stages of development, launch vehicles designed for peaceful use are used that use both traditional launch methods (launch from a submarine mine and from a ground launcher), and methods of launching rockets from the surface of the sea, from a surface ship or from an airplane from areas as far as possible Satisfying start-up requirements. The GRC is involved in the development and independently creates small spacecraft.
