History
Beginning of the
Initially , the Kazan Izvestia newspaper and the Kazan Gazette , published by the Imperial Kazan University journal , which was published by the university’s teachers in 1820–1833, were published by the printing house of the Imperial Kazan University.
However, these publications were not strictly scientific in nature, therefore, on the initiative of the rector of the Imperial Kazan University, mathematician N. I. Lobachevsky , the journal "Scientific Notes published by the Imperial Kazan University" was founded in 1834 . Opening the first issue of “Scientific notes”, the scientist explained the difference between this publication and socio-political and art magazines committed to portraying “passions and feelings”: the pages of the new journal are intended only for those “who belong to work for science itself and expect an award in their fame , scientific fame ” [1] .
1834-1917 years
For a decade, N. I. Lobachevsky was personally engaged in "Scientific Notes", led the publishing committee, and reviewed scientific articles. In the next quarter century, the journal was edited by philologist O. M. Kovalevsky , who held the post of rector of the university in the 1850s .
During this period, the journal published the most important works of N. I. Lobachevsky on non-Euclidean geometry : “Lowering the degree in a two-valued equation, when the exponent without unity is divided by eight” (1834, book 1), “Imaginary geometry” (1835, book. 1), “New principles of geometry with the complete theory of parallel” (1835, pr. 3; 1836, pr. 2, 3; 1837, pr. 1; 1838, pr. 1, 3), “Pangeometry” (1855, pr. one). The works also included the works of the chemist A. M. Butlerov , the Slavist V. I. Grigorovich , the botanist A. N. Beketov , the zoologist A. Kh. Eversman , the anatomist E. F. Aristov , and the mathematician A. F. Popov , geologist and ethnographer A. P. Orlov [2] , physician A. I. Kozlov and other scientists.
In the late 1850s, a university journal was required to be reorganized.
The establishment of separate censorship at Kazan University, I also consider one of the most necessary conditions for facilitating professors in their academic studies. Often months pass before censored articles or essays return to the author; their appearance is already irrelevant, backward and takes away any desire to continue classes and to publish their works. This separate censorship at the university would give a special life to the journal, published since 1834 at Kazan University under the name "Scientific Notes".
Having existed for 23 years and published according to the former rules that do not satisfy either the present time or the state of science, this journal cannot give the public any evidence of the scientific activities of the university class. The public is almost unaware of its existence, and many of the professors naturally find it more profitable to publish articles in capital magazines, where their work is completely rewarded.
Last year, a commission was drawn up to replace the old rules of publication with new ones, which could give meaning and life to the “Scientific Notes”, and I fully hope that from next year this important organ of the university’s mental activity will already have a different character, more consistent with the requirements made scientific journal society and science.- Report of the trustee of the Kazan educational district V.P. Molostvov to the Minister of Education A.S. Norov on February 14, 1857 . [3]
In 1862 - 1864, "Scientific Notes" began to be published with two departments: 1) in the department of physical and mathematical sciences, 2) in the department of historical-philological and political-legal sciences.
At this time , A.P. Chebyshev-Dmitriev became one of the editors of the magazine.
In 1865, the journal was divided into two parts: “University News” and, in fact, “University Scientific Notes”.
Izvestia published information on the official history of Kazan University: minutes of meetings of the University Council, lists of professors, faculty reports, curricula and lecture notes, information on the scientific activities of teachers, the work of university laboratories and clinics, and discussion of dissertations. The “Scientific Notes” published scientific works of professors of Kazan University, mainly of philological, historical, legal and medical content [4] .
Since 1865, the editor of the journal was N. N. Bulich , since 1867 - N. I. Ilminsky , since 1872 - A. M. Osipov, since 1883 - elected rector N. N. Bulich [4] .
During this period, A. Ya. Danilevsky , V. Ya. Rozhansky, I.N. Kholmogorov, and others also participated in the journal.
In 1884 - 1889, the "Scientific Notes" were divided into journals of university departments . At the same time, the uniform numbering of these publications by years since the founding of the "Scientific Notes" was maintained.
In 1890-1917 , a single university journal was again published, including, nevertheless, several subseries (for example, the Bulletin of the Meteorological Observatory of the Imperial Kazan University was at one time an application of the journal).
In the early 1900s, the editor was F. G. Mishchenko , in 1903 he became A. I. Alexandrov, in 1908 - A. A. Piontkovsky , and since 1916 - A. A. Simolin [5] .
Periodicals of some university societies were separate journals and were not included in the “Scientific Notes” of the university. Among them, for example: "News of the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography at the Imperial Kazan University", "Diary of the Kazan Society of Physicians at the Imperial Kazan University", "Proceedings of the Society of Naturalists at the Imperial Kazan University", "Proceedings of the faculty therapeutic clinic of the Imperial Kazan University", "Proceedings of the Law Society at the Imperial Kazan University", "Readings in the Society of lovers of Russian literature in memory of A. S. Pushkin at the Imperial Kazan University Iversitet ”,“ Proceedings of the Physics and Mathematics Society at the Imperial Kazan University ”.
In total, by 1918, 84 volumes ("years") of "Scientific Notes" in 532 books were published. They published about 1800 articles and notes [6] .
The official part of the journal contained the minutes of the university council meetings, information on government orders, the appointment of professors, adjuncts, teachers, etc. Scientific articles on theology, philosophy, pedagogy, linguistics, literature, history, ethnography, archeology were published in the unofficial part. geography, statistics, mathematics, mechanics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, geology, political economy, medicine [6] .
1925-1972
The issue of “Scientific Notes”, which had ceased during the revolutionary era, was resumed by Kazan State University named after V. I. Ulyanov-Lenin in 1925 . "Notes" in Soviet times were published separately, but under the same name and numbering of volumes (one volume corresponded to each year of publication).
In 1972 , after the 130th volume, the publication of "Scientific Notes" by the Kazan Order of the Red Banner of Labor by the State University named after V.I. Ulyanov-Lenin was discontinued.
1995-2010
In the 1990s, the release of Scientific Notes resumed: from 1995 to 2004, several separate volumes were published annually.
Since 2005, the periodical publication of "Scientific Notes" began to be published on a regular basis, in three separate series: "Humanities", "Natural Sciences" and "Physics and Mathematics." The series were registered with the Federal Service for the Supervision of Compliance with Legislation in the Field of Mass Communications and the Protection of Cultural Heritage on May 31, 2005 as separate magazines [7] .
Since 2007, series magazines have been included in the list of publications recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia for publishing the main scientific results of a dissertation for the degree of candidate and doctor of sciences .
On August 27, 2010, series magazines were re-registered with the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications in connection with a change in the type and type of founder of the journal: Kazan State University named after V. Ulyanov-Lenin "Was transformed into the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education" Kazan (Volga) Federal University ". In this regard, the word “state” was removed from the names of magazines [1] .
