Sakik, Joe

Joe Sakik [1] ( born Joe Sakic ; July 7, 1969 , Burnaby , British Columbia , Canada ) is a former Canadian hockey player , center forward. Throughout his 21-year career, he played for Quebec Nordics / Colorado Avalanche [2] . Since 1992 he was the captain of the team. With Sakik, Colorado won the Stanley Cup twice, and the player himself received the Hart Trophy , the Leicester Pearson Award , the Conn Smythe Trophy and 13 times participated in the All-Star Matches .

On July 9, 2009, Sakik announced the completion of a professional career. In the first match of the season 2009-2010, the club put the sweater with the number “19” out of circulation, and in 2012 it was included in the Hockey Hall of Fame . Sakik continued to work at Colorado, and after completing his hockey career, he received a position in the club’s system. In September 2014 he was appointed General Manager of Avalanche.
