Biography

Divya was born in Bombay in the family of an insurance agent Om Prakash and his wife Mita [2] . She had a younger brother Kunal and a half-sister Punam, from her father’s first marriage [3] . Her cousin Kainat Arora also became an actress [4] .

Divya attended Maneskey Cooper High School, in the Juhu area, and completed ninth grade before starting a career [5] .

In 1988, Divya was spotted by director Nandu Tolani, who invited her to star in one of his films. Initially, she should make her debut in the movie with the popular actor of the 1980s, Mithun Chakraborty , but the character proposed to her was removed from the script. Then Kirti Kumar spotted her in the video library and invited her to sign a contract for the film , along with aspiring actor Govinda . A few weeks later, Kumar met with Dilip Shankar to free her from the contract. However, after months of attending acting and dance lessons, she was excluded from the project and replaced by Juhi Chawla [6] .

After unsuccessful attempts in Bollywood , Divya decided to try her luck in regional cinema, namely in Tollywood . After meeting with local film producer D. Ramanaidou in 1990, she made her debut in the film , where she played with then-popular actor , and the film was a great commercial success. [7] In the same year, she starred with actor Anand in the Tamil- language film Nila Penne , which failed at the box office and became her only Tamil film. A year later, two films appeared on the screens, where she starred in partnership with the popular actor Chiranjivi and [8] . Divya Bharati was one of the most popular and highly paid actresses in Tollywood in the early 1990s [9] .

In 1992, after success in Telugu cinema, she decided to make another attempt in Bollywood, starring in the movie paired with Sunny Deol . The film received the status of “average” and a positive rating among the audience, and the song “Saat Samundar” became its hallmark [10] . A week later, the film with actor , which failed at the box office. Having achieved success in Bollywood, Divya decided to star in one Telugu film in a year so as not to disappoint the Telugu-speaking audience.
