Bushnieku

Busnieku [1] [4] [5] ( outmoded Busnieku -Ezers [6] , Butnek [7] , Bushen [8] ; Latvian Būšnieku ezers [5] , Lošu ezers [5] ) is a shallow, low-flow lake of lagoon origin [2] in the Primorsky Lowlands of the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea in the northwest of the Latvia . It is located within the northern part of the administrative territory of the city of Ventspils , 5.6 km northeast of its historical center. Two settlements are located near the lake: Pipiki and Busnieki [1] [9] [9] .

The surface area is 3.3 km² [5] . The average depth is 1.2 m [3] , the height above sea level is 11.1 m [1] .

The lake is located in a pine forest on the northern edge of the Ventava Plain , 1.3 km from the coast of the Baltic Sea, communicating with it through the Loshupe channel (Loshu [11] ). It has an oval shape, oriented in the north-south direction. The shores are most marshy in the west and north. The bottom is silty. The water level in the lake is regulated by a reinforced concrete dam on Loshup near its mouth on the northeast coast [3] . From the southeast side, the channel flows into the lake, flowing from lake , located 7 km east [1] [9] . In 2004, on the western shore of the lake with an area of ​​51 hectares, the nature reserve “Lake Busnieku” ( Latvian. Būšnieku ezera krasts ) was formed [2] [10] .

Ichthyofauna

In the lake there are: pike ( Latin Esox lucius ), rudd ( Latin Scardinius erythrophthalmus ), roach ( Latin Rutilus rutilus ), tench ( Latin Tinca tinca ), crucian carp ( Latin Carassius carassius ), bream ( Latin Abramis brama ) and perch ( lat. Perca fluviatilis ) [2] .
