WITCH (comic book)

Once upon a time harmony and good reigned in the world. But once evil entered there. Another World (known as the Meridian) appeared, where strange creatures lived. The evil prince Phobos began to rule this kingdom. The frightened people obeyed his every order. Phobos longed to subjugate other worlds and dimensions. To protect against this evil, Kondrakar was created - a powerful stronghold with the Council of the Brotherhood and the Oracle at the head. Kondrakar was in the center of infinity. To protect other worlds, the Great Network was created - a magical invisible barrier.

Kondrakar Wardens

• Will (Wilhelmina) Wandom - moved with her mother from Fadden Hills to Heatherfield. At first she did not like the new house. Almost immediately, she met new girlfriends, especially Tarani, as Will, the new student of the school. After Yang Lin, the grandmother of Hai Lin, gives Will “Kondrakar's Heart” - a magical amulet, Will becomes a new sorceress whose energy unites the forces of others. Villas can create powerful energy fields, increase the strength of other Sentinels, open and close portals, revitalize electronics (for example, your own phone), convey your mood to animals, change shape and become invisible. The girl initially looks unsure of herself, but quickly finds a common language with other sorceresses, except Cornelia, who is used to being a leader and did not want to recognize Will. Very jealous and sometimes makes hasty conclusions. In love with Matt. Will loves frogs and all kinds of room stuff. Later, her mother, Susan, begins dating a history teacher at the Sheffield School where her daughter is studying, Dean Collins. Will was categorically against such a relationship and hated the teacher, but then resigned herself to it. Later, the mother gives birth to a son, William, who, like Will, has magical powers. As a child, Will's father, Thomas, who suddenly showed up at Heatherfield and wanted to pick up his daughter for his purposes, left his mother.
• Irma Lar is the most eccentric and talkative of all the Sentinels. She is the lord of Water. It can control water, evaporate it and turn it into ice, create air bubbles under water. Also, Irma can inspire people with desired thoughts, so she always cheats during the exam, guessing those topics that she knows. May also change the color of things. Hates everything yellow. Irma is an ardent fan of the singer Carmilla, she has the entire collection of the singer’s CDs, and the whole room is hung with her posters. Likes to joke and bully Cornelia. Father Thomas is a local policeman and always hurries his daughter, and his younger brother Christopher always gets his older sister and receives in response from her. Anna replaced her mother, which Irma lost in her early childhood. Their relationship is very close and tender, almost perfect (this is partly why it is not immediately clear that they are adoptive mother and daughter), however, in the history of the comic book, the girl broke down several times, like any teenager, reminding Anna that she is not her mother (than wounded her parent deeply). However, Irma cools down almost immediately, realizing that, blushing out in haste, she went too far - and sincerely regretting, she made peace with Anna, restoring her family idyll.
• Tarani Cook is an African American, the quietest, quietest of all sorceresses, a little distracted. In the form of a Guard, she becomes the most responsible and serious. It rules the fire and is invulnerable to flame. Tarani can also spread iron and feel the whereabouts of other Sentinels. He loves math, classical music and dancing. Likes to photograph (but is afraid of many insects). Her mother is very strict, categorically against Tarani's love relationship with others and rarely finds a common language with her daughter. By profession - judge. Father works as a psychologist. Her older brother Peter is a good-natured and calm person (a student at an art institute), and Tarani loves him very much. It later turns out that her parents are actually foster children, and the real ones sent her in infancy to a shelter after a fire in the house.
• Cornelia Hale is the tallest, slender and most attractive of all sorceresses. She has long blonde hair. Very confident. Best friend Elion. Prior to arrival, Will was a leader in the company with Elion, Irma and Hai Lin. When she found out that Will should become the leader of the Sentinels, the only one began to protest against this, but later reconciled. Cornelia - Earthguard. Can move, lift and destroy stone. Also create, revitalize and control plant growth. Can use magic to tidy up the room instantly. Carefully looks after his appearance and always follows fashion. Cornelia also has a pesky and spoiled younger sister - Lilian. Mother, Elizabeth, is an architect, and Father Harold works at a bank. Sometimes a grandmother comes to the Hale family (from her father's side), with whom all family members have very tense relations. The only time grandfather appeared was Harold's father, who had once left the family when his son was still a child.
• Hai Lin is a Chinese woman by birth, her family runs a Chinese restaurant, in which her home is located. She is the Guardian of the Air, the only one of all sorceresses who can fly without using wings. It can create vortices and a powerful wind flow, air bubbles under water to breathe, and also turn into air to penetrate where it is impossible to crawl to a person. Very good-natured and vulnerable. She has a very simple and easy character. Almost never gets involved in conflicts. Hai Lin is a fan of everything supernatural. She collects things and jewelry with aliens. She is also an artist and a good clothing designer (at least for herself). He loves all sorts of baubles, strings and strings. Hai Lin, thanks to his ability, lives in a world of sounds and is able to easily determine what a sound means.
• Orube is a resident of Kondrakar, originally from another planet, the Basiliade, inhabited by cat people. Although Orube herself has the most human features among her relatives, she has well developed feline feelings and abilities: the girl sees perfectly in the dark, her sense of smell and hearing are also well developed, she herself is flexible and dexterous. Much later she was assigned to the team of sorceresses, after Tarani abandoned her role as a fiery magician, and received the earthly name "Rebecca". She knew practically nothing about the human world, including technological advances, because of which she fell into awkward (and sometimes dangerous) situations. After all the Sentinels united again, Orube no longer needed their help and remained to live on Earth, later developing a love relationship with Cedric. After death, Cedric returned to Kondrakar. Her further fate is unknown: whether she remained in Kondrakar or returned to the Basiliade - in the next seasons she does not appear and is not mentioned about her.

Former Guardians

• Yang Lin is one of the elders of Kondrakar. Grandmother Hai Lin died at the beginning of the events, but lives in an immortal form in Kondrakar. It is full, like the Oracle (Chimerish), of unlimited wisdom and is the main candidate for the place of the Oracle after the Chimerish. In the years of her youth, she was like High Lin the Air Guard and had short black hair. Later becomes the new oracle of Kondrakar.
• Nerissa is the main villain in the second arch of the comics. Former Guardian and Keeper of the Heart of Kondrakar. As a guard, Nerissa was so proud of her strength that her soul turned black - and the girl became cruel and cold. Kondrakar’s council decided to take Kondrakar’s Heart from her, transferring the artifact to another guard - Cassidy. Maddened with rage, Nerissa killed the girl, for which she was imprisoned in Mount Thanos alive - until she was once released. She tried to kill the Sentinels by creating new servants and even attacked Kondrakar - but was subsequently destroyed by the Sentinels.
• Cassidy is the previous Water Guard. After the council of Kondrakar decided to give her the Heart of Kondrakar, she was killed by Nerris. After death, the spirit of Cassidy became the patron saint of Villas and later transferred the girl strength to fight against Nerissa.
• Kadma is a former Earth Guard. Like Yang Lin, she was allowed to join the council of Kodrakar, but Kadma yelled at the Oracle, accusing him of inaction when Nerissa killed Cassidy, as a result of which she was permanently expelled from Kondrakar. Currently, she has become a wealthy single woman who owns a large greenhouse and finances the foundation of an organization helping orphans established by Halinor. At first, the Indian woman resisted helping the main characters, citing the fact that she owed nothing to anyone, but later Will helped a lot, giving a large amount of money to her father so that he would not take Will away from her mother.
• Halinor is a former Fire Guard. Little is known about her, besides the fact that she, along with Kadma, was expelled from Kondrakar, helped many people become worthy members of society, and looked after Will when she lived in Fadden Hills.

Villains

• Phobos , the former ruler of Meridian, was once a legitimate candidate for the throne, for he was the only heir. However, according to the law, on the Meridian, the title of monarch is transferred along the female line, and with the birth of Elion, the baby inherited the right to inherit. Fearing to lose the throne, Phobos decided to kill his parents (this is not fully covered) and his sister, but the residents of Meridian saved her. An greedy, cruel ruler who terrified the people, and turned them into black roses for failure to comply with the order. There, the prince created a wall of roses around his castle, but he exhausted almost all of his strength and decided to take away the power of Elion by deception. After losing to the sorceresses, he lost his remaining strength and was imprisoned in Kondrakar, where, after a new unsuccessful attempt at a coup, he committed suicide.
• Cedric - a Phobos subordinate, spied on the Sentinels, moonlighting in a bookstore. In its true appearance it has the shape of a huge serpentine monster, in disguise - a very refined aristocratic appearance, not without its “snake” features. After the defeat, Phobos was exiled by Kondrakar to Earth, where, deprived of almost all magical abilities (and with them some of the features of the serpentine essence), he continued to work in a bookstore. Fell in love with Oruba. He died at the hands of Lyudmur, protecting the sorceress and Orube.

Minor Characters

• Elion Brown (Portrate) - Queen Metamura (capital - Meridian). Cornelia's best friend. After meeting with Cedric and Phobos, she found out about her royal origin and believed the tales of the evil intentions of the Sentinels, who allegedly killed her own mother and imprisoned the girl on Earth with foster parents. After this “truth”, Elion intended to destroy the sorceress if they did not repent of their deeds. Later, she finds out that Phobos himself stood behind the murder of his mother, who kept his sister in the dark and intended to take away all her powers later in order to become even more powerful. In the end, the Guardians defeat Phobos, and Elion becomes the new and legal Queen of Meridian.
• Caleb - a Murmur or a whisperer (a plant converted by Phobos into a person to serve); however, unlike his relatives, he managed to get rid of those bonds that make whispers submissive servants and fled from the palace, after which he acquired a more human appearance, although Caleb still gives out green stripes on his body. It is not known how and when Caleb became a defector, but at the beginning of the story he already became the leader of the rebels, and when he saw Cornelia, he fell in love with her at first sight. Their love was very strong. Before his defeat, Phobos turned Caleb in its original form - a flower. Cornelia spent a lot of energy to restore his human appearance, but Caleb preferred to stay on Meridian, helping Elion, than broke Cornelia’s heart. According to the plot of the animated series, he is the man and son of the evil sorceress Nerissa.
• The oracle is the leader of the Kondrakar Council. His real name is Chimerish, and he comes from the Basiliade, where he was once the leader of the army. Usually he seeks not to interfere in the affairs of sorceresses, because of which the latter often think of the evil intentions of the Oracle, but in the end the Oracle is constantly right. Once he was expelled by Phobos in the body of Endarno back to the Basiliade, where Chimeris managed to restore the memory of the past.
• Matthew (Matt) Olsen - Will's love interest. Sings and plays the guitar with his group "Cobalt Blue" (in the comic book series) and "Rec-55" (animated series). During the Oracle Test in one of the arches, he becomes aware of the WITCH Sentinels, and after Will tells him about his secret, their relationship progresses.
• Martin Tubbs is a student at the Sheffield School and a peer to the Sentinels. In love with madness in Irmu.
• Andrew Hornby is Irma's first serious love, with which she tried to flirt once or twice, and how once she catastrophically turned him into a frog.
• Stephen is Irma’s guy from the seventh arch. He is a member of U18, a group of young combatants living and working (literally) underground. Irma later tells him about her magical powers (although not about WITCH), and then becomes her close trusted person.
• Nigel Ashcroft is a quiet, smart guy and a significantly influential Uriah gang member who ultimately leaves their company when feelings for Tarani are born in him. He is trying his best to prove to Tarani and her family (especially her mother) that his feelings are pure and good intentions. Then Tarani begins to spend more time in her dance school and less with Nigel, because of which quarrels begin, as a result Tarani decides to break up with him.
• Peter Lancelot Cook is Tarani's older brother and Cornelia’s current boyfriend. He is very kind and loves spending time with his family. In his free time he loves to play basketball, surf and get involved in other sports that require physical endurance.

The comic was published in one issue per month, and was usually written so that each arch fit into 12 issues, that is, in one year. The exceptions are the 5th season, which covers 14 chapters, the 8th season, in which 13 chapters, the 9th season (it has 18 chapters), the 10th season (13 chapters) and the 11th season (9 chapters) . There are 139 chapters in the comic book, not counting special issues. ^[2]

Season 1: Battle of the Meridian (Twelve Portals)

There were twelve portals on this Network that opened every thousand years, allowing creatures from another world to enter the human world. And when this moment was approaching, Kondrakar every time called for new Sentinels to close the portals. One fine day, five girls from Heatherfield were selected: Will, Irma, Tarani, Cornelia and Hai Lin. Each of them is able to control a certain element. Irma, with her developed sense of humor, is the element of Water. Tarani, the calmest of all, is the element of Fire. Cornelia - the element of the Earth, and the creative nature of Hai Lin - the element of Air. The Strazhnits group is led by Will, Energy Manager. She is also the custodian of the Heart of Kondrakar, a magical amulet that is a gift from the nymph Sin Yan. Thanks to him, five seemingly ordinary girls are able to turn into winged sorceresses. All girls go to the same school and are friends with each other. When they wanted to come up with a name for their team, Hai Lin noticed that the word “WITCH” was added from the first letters of their names. Another girl is studying with them, named Elion, who keeps herself at some distance from the group. Girls are actively fighting Evil, speaking on the side of the rebels of the Other Ira. At the head of the rebels is Caleb, the beloved of Cornelia, who appeared to her in dreams. Enchanters manage to close all portals. The girlfriend of the sorceress - Elion - is the legal heir to the throne of Meridian. After the overthrow of Phobos, she takes the throne in the Other World and returns peace, goodness and happiness to its inhabitants. Together with Elion, her adoptive parents disappear from the city. They begin to look for them, and detectives from Interpol arrive in the city. The mission of the sorceress is coming to an end. However, Phobos managed to turn Caleb into a flower. Cornelia is trying to save her lover, which leads her to a quarrel with her friends.

Season 2: Revenge of Nerissa

In Kondrakar, too, not everyone is happy with what is happening. Lyuba, the keeper of the Sentinel's sources of power, seeks to strip the young sorceresses of their magical powers. Having not met support, she decides to act alone, at her own peril and risk. As a result, a strange creature appears - Migotavr, which possesses the powers of all five Sentinels. Meanwhile, WITCH members are losing their ability. Caleb regains its original appearance, and, at first glance, everything falls into place. But Migotavr awakens in the bowels of Mount Thanos from eternal sleep Nerissa - the former Guardian and the keeper of the Heart of Kondrakar. She had once gone over to the side of Evil, she was punished, and now she is trying to take away the talisman from Will, which in the end she succeeds in. Having seized the Heart, Nerissa goes to conquer Kondrakar ... In the end, the sorcerers destroy her, but their problems do not end there ...

Season 3: The Crisis of Two Worlds

Ari is the evil ruler of the Archantes, a threat to Kondrakar. Сам Ари обеспокоен болезнью сына Маги, а судьбе Арханты также угрожает Юа, банши , захваченное правителем Арханты. Тарани вернулась в команду. Орубе хочет остаться в Хитерфилде. Оракул же всех шокировал тем, что отдал себя под суд. Кто же будет новым оракулом, Ян Лин или Эндарно? Ирма знакомится с Джоэлом, позже проникаясь к нему симпатией… Фобос сбежал из тюрьмы. Эндарно — смотритель тюрьмы, сверг Оракула. Он даже Элион посадил за решётку. Но тогда её и осенило — она узнала в Эндарно своего брата Фобоса! Стражницы его разоблачают, и в этом им помогает Ян Лин! Седрик же прибывает заключённым в тюрьму, в ожидании суждения. Мэтт обнаруживает тайну WITCH….

5 сезон: Война с Лудмуром (Книга Элементов)

По приговору Оракула Седрик должен жить в Хитерфилде в человеческом обличии, без магических свойств, и отдаёт ему книжный магазин. Бывший приспешник Фобоса ищет работу, чтобы адаптироваться в новой жизни, но продолжает грезить о власти. Однажды на одном из старых стеллажей он находит вещь, необходимую для совершения мести. В книге находится дух, живший когда-то в Меридиане. Седрик договаривается с книгой: ему нужно найти пять камней, что позволило бы открыть замки книги. Вместо магической книги, на стене подвала книжного магазина Седрика есть портал, который связывает Кондракар с Землёй. WITCH должны будут понять, как его использовать… Орубе знакомится с Седриком и влюбляется в него.

6 сезон: Сага о Рагорланге (Рагорланг)

Во время размышлений Хай Лин рисует чудовище, очень сходное с человеком на картине. Сны азиатки оказываются не простыми, а знаки становятся связями с чудовищными созданиями. Эти существа произведены старой госпожой, Теклой Ибсен. Она начнёт атаковать Стражниц, отнимая у них не только полномочия, но и жизненную энергию с помощью странного создания по имени Рагорланг. Также чародейки должны вернуть на родину двух беженцев — Эрин (подругу Ирмы) и Кадера.

Многих девушек ждёт новое: у Вилл рождается брат Уильям, Тарани узнаёт, что она — приёмная дочь, ну а Ирма встречает свою самую настоящую любовь — Стефана…

Чародейки продолжают учить магии волшебников Хитерфилда в волшебной школе — автобусе «Teach 2 ^b WITCH», а также сражаются с Рунами, которые так же, как и стражницы, обладают силами стихий (тёмной стороной): Нэштер — энергия, Дармон — огонь, Шалин — воздух, Кромо — земля, Ран-ра — вода, в волшебном мире «Нун-Бориал» и побеждают их. а также с Нигилой которая украв знаки зодиака начинает управлять судьбами людей. Но Чародейки мешают её планам и она вызывает их к себе. Одну за другой она превращает их в камень. Сначала Вилл, так как только она не обладает силой стихий. Потом Тарани, Ирму, Корнелию и только Хай Лин справляется с ней и побеждает Нигилу.

Серия «Дружба творит чудеса»

По мотивам комикса были написаны книги с разными сериями от разных писательниц. Серия книг «Дружба творит чудеса» состоит из 26 книг. В России издано только 20 из них. Все книги на русском языке выпускались издательством «Эгмонт-Россия Лтд» .

В 2005 году американское книжное издательство «Гиперион» выпустило 8 графических новелл , каждая из которых содержит по паре глав из комикса. ^[48]

Переиздание

А в 2017 году американское издательство «Yen Press» на очередном фестивале комиксов San Diego Comic-Con International , проходящем в городе Сан-Диего , объявило о переиздании основного комикса и графических новелл WITCH ^{[49] [50]}

Лене Каабербюль

Датская писательница Лене Каабербюль написала ряд книг, по вселенной WITCH, которые были опубликованы в Дании в 2002—2003 годах. Каждая книга рассказывает об одной из девушек как о главном персонаже в порядке букв WITCH ( W ill, I rma, T aranee, C ornelia, and H ay Lin).

Её следующая серия по WITCH называется «Crystal Birds» и содержит следующие книги:

Манга

Комикс так и не был опубликован в Японии, но вместо него была выпущена манга на основе комикса, иллюстриованная Харуко Иидой ( яп. 飯田晴子 Иида Харуко ) . Издательство «Kadokawa» ( яп. 角川書店 Kadokawa Shoten ) публиковало главы манги в их ежемесячном журнале «Asuka Monthly» ( яп. 月刊あすか Gekkan Asuka ) , которые затем были собраны в два танкобона , после чего издание было прекращено. Главы в мягком переплёте содержат обложки от Дайсукэ Эхары ( яп. 江原大介 Эхара Дайсукэ ) .
