Early Regiment Formations

The 15th Don Cossack Regiment was the direct heir to the Don Cossack Karpov Regiment, which was formed in the mid 1820s of the XIX century and took part in the Caucasus campaigns against the Persians in 1826-1828 and against the Turks in 1828-1829 .

For the first time, the Don Cossack Regiment under No. 15 was formed on May 26, 1835 on the basis of a new regulation on the Don Cossack Army . Periodically, this regiment was convened and disbanded for a benefit, its current number also changed (depending on the free number of the regiment at the time of convocation). In addition to the number in the name of the regiment, it was also supposed to mean the name of his current commander.

The regiment was in the Caucasus for a long time and took part in campaigns against the highlanders .

Final Regiment Formation

On July 27, 1875, another Don Cossack Regiment No. 15 was called from the Don to foreign service. Since then, he remained a priority and more than a break did not dissolve.

In 1877-1878, the regiment was in the 1st Don Cossack Division of General I. I. Shamshev and took part in military operations against the Turks in Bulgaria .

Since May 24, 1894, the regiment was referred to as the 15th Don Cossack Regiment. On August 26, 1904, General Krasnov I was named the eternal chief of the regiment and his name was added to the name of the regiment.

In the years 1914-1917, the regiment took part in the First World War .
