Biography
In 1924 he graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology . In 1932 he received a Ph.D. at Uppsala University . He worked in the Swedish and German industry as a consulting engineer.
In 1939 he published the first monograph on the distribution in probability theory , which received his name. Since 1941, he taught at the Royal Technological University.
He gained worldwide fame in studies in the field of material fatigue , probability theory and statistics .
Rewards
In 1972, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers . In 1978 he was awarded the Great Gold Medal of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering.
