Location
The station is located in the suburbs of Lyon commune Villeurbanne . The station platforms are located under Charles Ernu Square ( French place Charles Hernu ) and Emil Zola Avenue ( French cours Émile Zola ), at the intersection of Emerod ( French rue des Émeraudes and Gabriel Peri ( French rue Gabriel Péri ) and Emil Avenues Zola and Vuitton ( Fr. Vitton ). Entrance to the station is from Charles Ernu Square [1] [2] .
Features
The stations of both lines were opened on May 2, 1978 as part of the first line of the Lyons metro from Perrache station to Laurent Bonvet - Astrobal station (line A) and from Charpin - Charles Ernu station to Gare Par Dieu - Vivier Merle station (line B). Line A station consists of two tracks and two side platforms. A feature of the station of line B is that its construction was not originally planned, since it was assumed that at this point the only line would be divided into two branches. However, during the construction process, it was decided to build a full line and interchange station. The only place where this station could be built was the branch tunnel itself. Thus, the station of line B is in the same vertical plane with line A and has a single platform connected to the station of line A by a corridor. An official connecting branch between the lines was built on the site of the planned plug.
In 2006, the passenger flow of the interchange hub amounted to 716,414 people / month [1] .
Name Origin
The original name of the station is “Sharpen - Viyerban”. The first part of the name is given in honor of the former name of Charles Ernu Square - Charpen, so named after the historical name of this quarter. The second part of the name - “Viyerban”, is given in honor of the commune where the station is located. However, on January 17, 1990, after the sudden death of the mayor of the commune, Charles Ernu, the square was named after him. Following this, the name of the metro station was changed [1] .
