Biography

Born in 1913 in the village of Yevlashevka, now the village of Krasnoselskoye, Borznyansky district, Chernihiv region . Ukrainian .

Education 7 classes [1] . Member of the CPSU (b) .

Was married. Wife - Krasnoselskaya Fedora Ivanovna. Together with his wife and son, he lived and worked in the Crimea , in the village of Islam-Terek, Kirovsky District . He worked in the Islamic Terek MTS.

He was called up to the Navy in 1941 by the Kirov District Military Commissariat of the Crimean ASSR [2] . According to other more widely disseminated data, before the war, Ivan Krasnoselsky worked in the Kerch seaport , next to which he lived with his family. Having heard on the radio about the beginning of the war, he turned to the military commissariat with a request to send him to the front as a volunteer [3] .

On November 7, 1941, as part of a group of Red Navy men led by political instructor Nikolai Filchenkov, he participated in a battle with German units in the vicinity of the village of Duvanka (now the village of Verhnesadovoe within the administrative borders of Sevastopol). He died in this battle.

He was buried in a mass grave in the cemetery of the village of Dergachi (now the Nakhimovsky district of Sevastopol ) [1] .

Rewards

  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1942, for the exemplary execution of the combat missions of command at the front in the fight against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to them, the Red Navy Ivan Mikhailovich Krasnoselsky was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumous) [1] .

Memory

In honor of the fellow countryman - Hero of the Soviet Union, it was renamed into the Krasnoselsky village of Yevlashevka of the Borznyansky district . A bust of Ivan Mikhailovich Krasnoselsky was installed in the village, and a memorial plaque was placed on a memorial to fellow villagers who died during the Great Patriotic War.

The name in the name of I.M. Krasnoselsky is the street in the homeland of the Hero - in the city of Borzna (former Rosa Luxemburg street). In 1951 - a street in the Nakhimovsky district of Sevastopol (between Istomina and Odintsova streets). There is Krasnoselsky street in Chernihiv .

The name of Krasnoselsky was also received by the village of Yany-Basalak in the Crimea. Near the village of Verhnesadovoy a monument was erected to the participants of the battle on November 7, 1941 [4] .

Criticism

A detailed analysis of German documents in recent historical works shows the complete absence of tanks and tank units with the advancing 11th army of E. Manstein , which had only self-propelled artillery in the 190th assault guns division and light reconnaissance armored vehicles [5] . On this basis, the specific circumstances of the feat of N. Filchenkov’s group are seriously questioned [6] . The main Soviet version of the feat is based on an article by Meyer Naumovich Kogut, head of the agitation and propaganda department of the newspaper Krasny Chernomorets, who was written 7 months after the events. It is not based on official reports from the reconnaissance group and there are generally no references to specific surviving combatants [7] .

Here is how the source of the article [7] described by M. Kogut:

The defenders of Sevastopol passed on this unprecedented feat of the five Black Sea inhabitants by word of mouth. But no one knew the names of the fighters who, in the difficult days for the city, with their breasts blocked the way to Sevastopol with fascist tanks. The other day we had to meet with one sailor who told the whole story of this feat.

The article not only describes in detail the actions of each participant in the battle, but also provides fantastic details such as an attack by Soviet positions under the guise of a flock of sheep, the destruction of tank crews from small arms through viewing slots. In the middle of the article, nameless heroes suddenly receive specific surnames and titles. MN Kogan himself, after the capture of Sevastopol in 1942, was captured and died, so its sources cannot be verified. At the same time, the surviving sailor of the marine corps G. E. Zamikhovsky in the December battles for Sevastopol, the awarded medal "For Courage", in his memoirs gives a different picture of what happened [8] :

But I don’t remember the “famous” feat of the group of political instructor Filchenkov! Forgive me, but I was near Duvanka on November 7th, and our company stood immediately behind the 18th Marine Corps battalion under the command of Chernousov. There were no German tanks there! Tanks went to the position of the combined battalion of cadets of the school of coastal defense named after the Lenin Komsomol. The battalion occupied positions near Bakhchisarai. Find two former cadets of Roitburg and Israilevich in Russia. They are still alive. Let them tell you how 1,200 sailors of this battalion with training rifles heroically covered Sevastopol, and almost all of them laid down their heads.

Of the indisputable facts, there is now the advance of the Filchenkov group towards the advanced reconnaissance units of the Ziegler group, which could include light armored vehicles, and possibly self-propelled guns Stug III from the 190th assault guns division. The group took the battle with unknown results and died in full force, which does not detract from the feat of its fighters [6] .
