Lewis Allan “Lew” Hood ( born Lewis Alan Hoad ; born November 23, 1934 , Glebe , Australia - July 3, 1994 , Fuengirola , Spain ) - Australian tennis player, twelve-time winner of the Grand Slam in men's singles, doubles and mixed categories; three-time winner of the Davis Cup in the Australian team (from 1953 to 1956).

General Information

In an autobiography written in 1979 , famous tennis promoter Jack Cramer mentioned Houd among the strongest players in history, along with great tennis players like Don Budge , Bill Tilden and Pancho Gonzalez . [2]

For five years, since 1952 , the Aussie has consistently been in the top ten among amateur tennis players, reaching the first line of the rating in 1956 . In 1957, he became a professional.

In 1980, the name of Lew Hood was included on the New Port of Tennis Hall of Fame .

After completing a sports career, Howd moved to Spain and, together with his wife, kept a hotel with tennis courts in Fuengirola near Malaga . He was visited by Sean Connery , Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston .

Lew Hood struggled with leukemia and was expecting a bone marrow transplant when he suddenly died of a heart attack in a weakened state.
