The Dakhov detachment was created with the aim of finally conquering the territory of the Western Caucasus and cleansing the territory of the local population of the Circassians. The Dakhov detachment was one of several large units of the Russian army that completed the conquest of the Western Caucasus. Parts of the detachment took an active part in the hostilities against the Circassians. villages in the foothills and mountains, destroyed crops, gardens, food supplies, fodder, stole cattle, cut logs, etc.

The Dakhov detachment got its name in the summer of 1862, after occupying the valley of the Dakho society, which was the key to the conquest of the most difficult part of the Western Caucasus - the most elevated and severe space on both sides of the watershed ridge, from the headwaters of the upper Pshish River to the east. The detachment retained this name at the special request of the chief until his dissolution.
