Biography

Doctor of Geographical Sciences (1994), the theme of his doctoral dissertation "Landscape Dynamics (methodology, methodology, regional problems." Theme of the Ph.D. thesis (1967): "Methodology for compiling a landscape map of scale 1: 1 000 000 (for example, Western Kazakhstan)." Moscow State University, Faculty of Geography, Department of Physical Geography of the USSR (now physical geography and landscape science) (1955), graduate school (1958-1961).

  • Member of the dissertation of the Physical-Geographical Scientific Council of the Faculty of Geography (since 1997).
  • Head of the department’s landscape seminar (since 1996), Chairman of the Physical-Geographic Department of the Moscow Center of the Russian Geographical Society.
  • From 1990 to the present - Leading Researcher.
  • from 1996 to the present - head. Laboratory of landscape-ecological modeling of geosystems.
  • 1977-1991 - Head. laboratory of landscape science and analytical methods in physical geography.
  • 1975-1990 - Senior Researcher.
  • 1967-1975 - Junior Researcher.
  • 1962-1967 - senior engineer.
  • 1961-1962 - engineer-geographer.
  • Since 1961, he was an employee of the Department of Physical Geography of the USSR, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University.
  • The head of the detachment of the Tselinnaya expedition of Moscow State University (1961-1963), the head of the party of the Gorky expedition (1965-1966), the head of the Meshchersky expedition (1963-1964, 1967-1970).
  • 1955-1958 - Alma-Ata land management expedition for the selection and delimitation of virgin and fallow lands, soil engineer.

Scientific interests. The methodology and theory of landscape science, the methods of studying and mapping landscapes, applied and regional issues of landscape science. She worked on the problems of landscape morphology (identifying hierarchical levels, establishing their diagnostic features, types of relative positions of morphological units), large-scale and medium-scale mapping of landscapes, landscape display, using landscape studies in agriculture and studying surface runoff, creating regional landscape characteristics (Meshchera, Moscow region). Studying the problems of landscape dynamics, she substantiated the concepts of “state” and “change” of natural territorial complexes (PTC), their taxonomy, proposed an original method for identifying them, formulated the rule for the formation of evolutionary-dynamic series of PTCs, identified additional factors of PTC stability associated with their dynamics, showed the role of anthropogenic factors in the development of landscapes, investigated the contribution of PTC states to their development, proposed a genetic-dynamic classification of PTC.

Expeditions. The organizer and participant of many expeditionary works in the center of the Russian Plain (Central Russian Upland, Meshchera Lowland, Smolensk-Moscow Upland, Moskvoretsko-Oka Plain) and in Kazakhstan (Prikaspiy, Poduralsky Plateau, Turgai Plain, Central Kazakhstan, Dzhungarsky Ala-Tau). Organizer of semi-stationary studies of landscape dynamics in Meshchera (Lesunovo, Oksky Reserve) since 1976. Currently, he is investigating the problem of the contribution of PTC states to their development based on stationary landscape studies.
