Explorer Plate - An ocean tectonic plate beneath the Pacific Ocean and on the west coast of Vancouver Island Canada . In the east, the Explorer plate undergoes subduction under the North American plate . In the south, the Sovanko fault zone , which separates the Explorer plate from the Pacific plate, has a transform boundary . In the southeast, a transform boundary - the Nootka fault separates it from the Juan de Fuca plate. In the northwest, the divergent border with the Pacific plate forms the Explorer ridge . The Explorer Plate is one of the northern remnants of the Farallon Plate .
