Popovy ice - sea ice with a thickness of at least 3 meters, which existed for more than 2 annual cycles of growth and melting. In the form of vast ice fields is observed mainly in the Arctic basin . A more correct name is perennial ice .
In English, pack ice is understood to mean free-flowing ice masses that crawled into the water and torn off glaciers on land, as well as drifted ice floes that were subsequently captured by coastal ice. Sea ice has this property: even when formed, it differs in less salinity than sea water. As the “life” continues, it more and more approaches the fresh state and finally becomes fit for human consumption.
