Map of the Galapogos microplate
The Galapagos microplate is a small oceanic tectonic plate on the west coast of South America off the Galapagos Islands . It has an area of 0,00036 steradian . It is usually considered as part of the Nazca plate.
It differs from other tectonic plates in that it rotates clockwise between three much larger tectonic plates around it ( Nazca plate, Coconut plate and Pacific plate ). To the north of it, the smaller North Galapagos microplate also rotates, but counterclockwise.
