History
Mountain Home was founded as a post office for the Rattlesnake station On the Overland Route 11 kilometers east of the current situation of the city. In 1883, with the extension of the Oregon Small Railroad the post office was moved to the location of the modern city [3] . In 1943, an air force base was deployed 19 kilometers south-west of the city acting until now [4] . 4,500 military and 850 civilians are deployed at the base; it is the main source of income for the city [5] .
Geography and climate
Mountain Home is located in the southwestern part of Elmore County. The height of the central part of the city is 959 m . The area of the city is 13.4 km². The state capital, Boise , is 65 km directly. [6]
Motorways SH-51 , [7] SH-67 , [8] I-84 [9] and US-20 [10] pass through the city. The city has its own municipal airport [11] .
The city is located in the temperate zone . The coldest month is January , the warmest is July . The average relative humidity in winter is 50%, in summer - 23% [5] .
