Geography
The village is located in the western part of the Samara region, near the border with the Ulyanovsk region. It is located in a valley between numerous hills, overgrown with pine forest - Raceca taiga. The surroundings of the village include a large number of unique objects of nature: Racea Bor, Racea Taiga, Semiklyuchye, Mokhovoye and Uzilovo Bogs, Racea Rocks - all of them are monuments of nature.
History
The name of the village comes from the name of the old craft - smolovareniya. On numerous pines special notches were made, through which resin flowed. She was going to smolarnyah by dry distillation obtained technical resin, from which they then received tar, rosin, turpentine, etc. [2]
According to another version, the village received its name from the name or nickname of the first inhabitant, the hunter Smolyan. [3]
At the same time, the Chuvash name of the village is quite transparent, it means "the top of the river Usa".
The first mention of the village dates back to 1733.
In 1921, the year was arid, famine broke out in the Volga region, and in Smolkino there was a big fire that destroyed half of the village, and the forests burned out for several kilometers around.
In 1929 a collective farm was formed in the village. During the famine in 1932-1933, many left the village, leaving for more satisfying places.
According to the 1959 census, there were 414 courtyards in Smolkin, of which 293 belonged to the collective farmers, 121 to workers and employees. The population of the village held 227 cows, 896 sheep, 54 goats and 9 horses.
Temples
His church in the village was not. Together with the nearest settlements, Alyoshkino and Eryomkino treated the parish at the church of St. Nicholas in Eryomkin. After the revolution, the temple was destroyed. And after a change in the administrative-territorial division, Aleshkino and Eremkino found themselves in the Ulyanovsk Region. Today Smolkino belongs to the Cosmo-Damianovskaya church in Stara Rachek.
