Mekran ( Persian مکران ; Urdu مکران ) is a semi-desert coastal strip in the south of the Pakistani province of Sind and the Iranian-Pakistani historical region of Balochistan . Located along the coast of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman . The name "Mekran" comes from the word "Maca" ( satrapies of the Achaemenid empire ).

A narrow coastal strip rises very high on several mountain ranges. Of the 1,000 km of the Mekran coastline, about 750 km are in Pakistan . The climate is very dry with very little rainfall. Mekran has a low population density, with the majority living in small ports such as Chahbehar , Gwadar , Jivani , Pasni and Ormar . There is only one island on the coast of Mekran - Astola , near the town of Pasni.
On November 28, 1945, a powerful earthquake struck the coast of Mekran. Killed 4,000 people.
