Jean de Marion ( fr. Jeana de Marion , Polish Jan Marian ; d. August 1635 , Kodak ) - French officer, colonel in the service of the Polish king Vladislav IV , engineer, took a direct part in the creation of the project and the construction of the Kodak fortress , then its commandant , a veteran of the Kamenets campaign against the Beylerbey of Bosnia, Mehmet Abaza , the Pasha , who ended in the defeat of the Turks on November 22, 1633 .

Member of the Battle of Kodak.
In August 1635, it was destroyed along with the garrison, which consisted of 200 German dragoon mercenaries, during the storming of the fortress by the Cossacks of the hetman, the troops of Zaporizhzhya Ivan Sulima . According to a common version, after torture, the commandant J. Marion was executed by the Cossacks as follows: he was tied to a tree with clothes tightly tied on it, in which gunpowder was poured, and then blown up through a lighted wick.
Ivan Sulima was then captured and executed, and the fortress was rebuilt.
