The race was won by Felipe Massa , the second came Fernando Alonso , who guaranteed himself the world title, the third - Jenson Button . Michael Schumacher started a breakthrough after a failure in qualifying, rolled back to the last place after a puncture of the tire, but finished 4th, setting the best time on the last lap of the race.

Free arrivals
Despite the rain that watered SΓ£o Paulo for two days, free rides, as well as qualification with the race, passed on a dry track.
In the first series of Friday free races took part only 17 pilots. The best time showed Kimi Raikkonen (1: 13,764), who drove 5 laps around the track. In the second part of the races, all 29 pilots took part (although the main pilots, as always, drove a short distance), the best time was put by the test-pilot Williams Alexander Wurz . On Saturday, only combat pilots participated in training according to the rules, each limited to 15-20 circles. The first 2 lines of the protocol with a large margin occupied the pilots of Ferrari . The best lap time showed Felipe Massa (1: 11,443). Detailed results Saturday free races: [2] .
The best time of the weekend was set in the second part of the qualification by Michael Schumacher : 1: 10.313.

Events
- The Brazilian Grand Prix was the last stage of the 2006 World Cup . The fate of the championship title and the Cup of designers decided only on this race. Fernando Alonso became the world champion, the Renault team won the constructors' championship .
- Felipe Massa became the first Brazilian to win the Brazilian Grand Prix since 1993 , when Ayrton Senna won it.
- The Brazilian Grand Prix was the last Grand Prix of Formula 1 with the participation of Cosworth engines , which for 38 years participated in Formula One. The return occurred 3 seasons later, at the 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix .
- On the rear wing of the test pilot BMW Sebastian Vettel was inscribed [3] the inscription "Danke, Michael!" ("Thank you, Michael" eng. Thanks Michael ).
