Biography
Katarina is the daughter of the Elector of Saxony Frederick I and his wife Katarina Braunschweig-Luneburg , daughter of the Duke Henry I of Braunschweig-Luneburg .
June 11, 1446 in Wittenberg, Katarina married Elector Brandenburg Frederick II . He unsuccessfully wooed her earlier, but in the end, marriage became an integral part of the agreement that settled the conflict between Brandenburg and Saxony over Ludzica and marked the union between these states. The marriage was unhappy. Frederick had numerous extramarital affairs, in one of which his son Erasmus was born. In recent years, the couple lived separately: Frederick - in Franconia , Katarina - in Brandenburg.
