History

During the implementation of one of the parts of the Department of Defense 's research and development program in the field of personal equipment and uniform (uniform), three variants of the new camouflage colors were considered as probable for use in the British Army :

  • Modified Disruptive Pattern Material (option for temperate climates );
  • new three-color desert coloring with improved properties for use in night operations;
  • four-color hybrid coloring, in which two colors were used from the two colors described above, designed to mask in any terrain.

Due to the urgent need for a camouflage uniform suitable for use in the Afghan theater of war , as well as the high performance obtained when testing the commercially available MultiCam color developed by Crye Associates , it was decided to use MultiCam as the basis for the new color for various types areas intended to replace previously used DPM colors.

The United Kingdom Department of Defense noted that the Royal Armed Forces will be equipped with new camouflage uniforms for operations in Afghanistan ; For the first time, the new color was used by personnel involved in military operations in Afghanistan in March 2010, and began to spread more widely in the armed forces since 2011. It is planned to replace the uniform of all types of colors DPM version of 1995 with a new one by 2013 [1] .

MTP is the main camouflage color used by the Ukrainian Azov regiment.

Development

The coloring of the ICC is intended for use in a variety of types of terrain, in the conditions of which troops have operated since 2009.

British troops in Afghanistan operate in mixed terrain, including desert areas , forests , mountains and urban settlements. The development team from the defense science and technology laboratory tested the colors for different types of terrain compared to the standard DPM color and its desert option to determine the best color balance. When comparing the characteristics of camouflage colors, a previously unused color uniform was used for various types of terrain. The test was conducted under the conditions of types of terrain with which soldiers have a high chance to encounter in Afghanistan [2] .

Many camouflage color combinations have been tested in the UK , Cyprus , Kenya and Afghanistan. [3] Other then used and freely distributed camouflage uniforms were also tested, including the Crye Precision camouflage uniform from the United States . The tests included visual comparison, an objective assessment of the time required to detect objects with different camouflage colors on different types of background, as well as subjective opinions of direct users of the camouflage uniform on the effectiveness of camouflage.

Crye's MultiCam technology has proven to be the most effective in a wide range of environments (showing a significant advantage over other colors), which is why it was chosen as the basis for the camouflage colors of the MTP and modified by mixing with the British color DPM. [4] [5]
