Biological Description

Fruit bodies - apothecia or cleistothecia , small or rather large, disc-shaped or cup-shaped, sessile or with a short stalk, often brightly colored, sometimes with a brown pubescence with a hymenophore . Kleistothecia are usually underground, thick-walled, hollow or not hollow. Asuka cylindrical, non-amyloid . Spores are aseptic, mononuclear, usually elliptical, brownish or unpainted, with a smooth or ornamented surface.

Ecology

Representatives of the family are saprotrophs or mycorrhiza forming on the ground, underground or on decaying wood.

Taxonomy

It is likely that the family is polyphyletic , however, the corresponding molecular studies have not been conducted. Perhaps the Ascodesmidaceae J. Schröt family . , 1893 and Glaziellaceae JL Gibson 1986 are synonyms of the Pironemovs.
