The 7th FIFA World Youth Championship ( Eng. 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship ) - was held from February 16 to March 3, 1989 in Saudi Arabia . Matches were held in the cities of Riyadh , Dammam , Jeddah and Taif . The tournament was attended by 16 youth teams, who played 32 games. The matches of the tournament were visited by 643,815 spectators (an average of 20,119 per game). The championship for the first time in history was won by the Portuguese national team . The best player of the tournament was recognized as the midfielder of the Brazilian national team , Bismarck Barreto Faria .
