History

The first issue was released in St. Petersburg on November 25, 1994. The newspaper was conceived as a grant project of the European Journalism Network (a USAID project for the development of student journalism in Eastern Europe and the former USSR) and the Russian-American Information Press Center. The first editorial staff underwent an internship in the daily newspaper of the University of California and Los Angeles ( UCLA ) Daily Bruin (1997), which largely determined the information policy and style of the publication. The newspaper Gaudeamus is published by non-professional student journalists and is intended for the student audience of the city. In 1997, due to the end of the grant, the newspaper was transformed into a commercial project and so far has been using advertising funds. In 2006, the newspaper was re-registered, changing the scope of distribution throughout the Russian Federation [2] . Since May 16, 2007, Gaudeamus began to be produced in Moscow.
