The third child from the second marriage of a Leipzig merchant, during the Thirty Years War who received the title of Provincial General. Since 1662 , he studied theology at the University of Jena , then tried himself in the military service and after several years of wandering, he settled in 1666 in public service in Sweden.

After several business trips to Riga , Revel and the Netherlands in August 1669 , Ayrman left for Warsaw in the retinue of Count Christian Horn, who represented Sweden at the Sejm for the election of the King of Poland. After the election of Mikhail Vishnevetsky , supported by the Swedes, the Gorn embassy was redirected to Moscow to redress the discontent of Russia, which had its own candidate in the elections. After staying in Moscow for about three months, Ayrman returned to Stockholm through Novgorod and Finland as part of the embassy. A year later, on the next voyage, Ayrman became a victim of a shipwreck and barely escaped, after which he was forced to spend about six months on treatment in Nuremberg ; probably during this period he wrote “Notes”, telling in sufficient detail about the mores and traditions of Muscovites, also dwelling on life in Revel in some detail, and in a shorter form also telling about Poland, Riga, Narva and Derpt.

Airman’s “notes” have been in the family archives for more than two centuries and were published in 1937 under the title “Travels of Hans Moritz Ayrmann through Livonia and Russia in 1666 - 1670 ” ( German: Hans Moritz Ayrmanns Reisen durch Livland und Russland in den Jahren 1666-1670 ) in Notes of the University of Tartu , prepared by Kurt Schreinert .
