History
Last race track built in the USSR . Opened in 1978, the “Rustavi” track was 4040 m long and 18 m wide in the start-finish zone, 14 m in corners and 12 m in straight lines. The complex included a karting track, an autocross track, a motocross with a motobole field, an open tribune for 500-800 seats; nearby was the technical base and hotel. The first car races took place at the end of 1979. The stages of the USSR championships were held in Rustavi 11 times (1979-1989). After the collapse of the USSR, the highway was not reconstructed, the road surface became unusable. In 2009, a land plot with a ruined tribune and a dilapidated road surface was acquired at a state auction by Shota Abkhazava . In April 2011, FIA President Jean Todt visited the construction site.
Reconstruction
The track is completely reconstructed, the configuration of a number of turns is changed. A significant amount of landscape work has been completed, during which over 250,000 m 3 of soil have been displaced. Two stationary stands were built: an indoor stand for 2,000 seats and an open stand for 3,000 standing places. The building of technical boxes was erected (28 boxes made according to the FIA standard). The second tier of the building serves as an additional tribune, and also accommodates offices, a restaurant with 200 seats and a conference room. The third floor is occupied by the race control tower.
For the passage of trucks into the paddock, a tunnel was made between turns 2 and 3. The main stand is connected to the paddock by a pedestrian tunnel. A bridge with two Svan towers will allow viewers to get to the Tribune 3.
The track is equipped with several modern engineering systems: high-resolution video surveillance cameras covering 100% of the distance, 14 electronically controlled LED traffic lights, a fiber optic network, a sound distribution system, and an AMB brand timing system that divides the track into 3 sectors.
The start-finish line is extended to 830 meters and has become suitable for drag racing .
Security
After reconstruction, the track began to meet the safety requirements for FIA Category 2 racetracks. This allows you to take on it the majority of the world's racing series, including GP2 . All departure areas have gravel, and asphalt is laid in the most critical places.
