Geography
The county is located in central Ontario, in the Central Ontario region . In the north, Parry Sound borders on Sudbury County, in the north and east - on the Nipissing County, in the south - on Muskoka County , in the west - washed by the waters of Georgian Bay (Lake Huron ).
Administrative Division
The district includes the following municipalities:
- 3 cities ("town"): Parry Sound , Kearney and Poissant ;
- 16 townships: Arkipelago , Armur , Callander , Carling , Jolie , Macher , Magnetavan , McDougall , McKellar , McMarrick-Monteith , Nypissing , Perry , Ryerson , Seguin , Strong and Whitestone ;
- 3 villages: Burks Fall , South River and Sunbridge ;
- 2 inter-populated territories: Central Parry Sound and Northeast Parry Sound ;
- 7 Native American territories: Dokis 9 , Magetavan 1 Parry Island , French River , Henvey Inlet , Nayskuteng 17A and Shavanaga 17 .
Population
Of the approximately 40.9 thousand inhabitants of the district, 20,400 are men and 20,515 are women. The average age of the population is 47.9 years (versus 39.0 years on average in the province ). At the same time, the average age of men is 47.3 years, and women - 48.4 (similar indicators in Ontario - 38.1 and 39.9, respectively) [1] .
In the district, 17,195 private dwellings belonging to 12,765 families were registered [1] .
36,830 people speak English as their native language, 1,180 speak French . The prevalence of other languages is small [1] .
The largest settlement and administrative center - Parry Sound - 5818 people. (one seventh of the district’s population, according to the 2006 census) [2] .
